Ayurvedic Wellness Retreat in Goa: Your Complete Guide 2026

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people travel to India for Ayurvedic healing. Goa has become one of the most popular destinations for it  and for good reason. But what actually happens at an Ayurvedic retreat? What will you eat, feel, and experience day to day?

At Oceanic Yoga International, a Yoga Alliance RYS-certified school with 16+ years of practice and over 2,500 graduates, we run a 10-day Ayurvedic Wellness Retreat in Morjim, North Goa. Here is everything you need to know before you book.

What Is an Ayurvedic Wellness Retreat?

An Ayurvedic wellness retreat is a residential programme where qualified Ayurvedic doctors personalise ancient Indian therapies to your unique body-mind constitution. It combines clinical consultation, herbal treatments, a restorative diet, and medically guided detox into one cohesive healing journey.

Here is how it differs from other retreat types:

Retreat TypeFocusWhat You Get
Yoga RetreatMovement & mindfulnessDaily yoga, meditation, vegetarian food
Ayurveda RetreatPersonalised healing & detoxDoctor consultation, herbal therapies, dosha-specific diet
Panchakarma RetreatDeep clinical purification5-phase detox, supervised by an Ayurvedic physician

At Oceanic Yoga, our 10-day retreat combines all three  daily yoga, personalised doctor consultations, hands-on therapies, and Panchakarma-inspired protocols  just 800 metres from Morjim beach.

The 5 Core Ayurvedic Therapies at Our Goa Retreat

Your therapy programme is never generic. On arrival, our resident Ayurvedic doctor assesses your dosha, current imbalances, and health history before creating your personalised schedule.

Shirodhara  Warm Oil Forehead Therapy

A continuous stream of warm medicated oil is poured over the forehead for 30–45 minutes. This creates a deep calming effect on the nervous system and is one of the most requested therapies on the retreat.

Benefits: Relieves chronic stress and anxiety, improves sleep quality, reduces migraines, and enhances mental clarity.

Abhyanga  Full-Body Herbal Oil Massage

A synchronised warm oil massage using long, flowing strokes. The herbal oil  chosen for your specific dosha  is absorbed through the skin, nourishing the body from the inside out.

Benefits: Supports lymphatic drainage, relaxes deep muscles, lubricates joints, and deeply nourishes the skin.

Kizhi  Herbal Poultice Therapy

Heated linen pouches filled with medicinal herbs are applied rhythmically across the body or targeted joints. The combination of heat and herbal potency makes this one of the most effective treatments for musculoskeletal conditions.

Benefits: Relieves arthritis, back pain, and chronic stiffness. Improves joint mobility and nourishes deep tissue.

Nasyam  Nasal Cleansing Therapy

Medicated herbal oils are administered through the nasal passages, targeting the sinuses, brain, and head region. In Ayurveda, the nose is the gateway to the brain  making Nasyam one of the most potent treatments for migraines, sinus congestion, and mental fog.

Nethra Dhara  Eye Cleansing Therapy

A medicated herbal liquid is gently streamed over open eyes using a specialised eye cup. It relieves strain from prolonged screen use, reduces dryness and redness, and is especially beneficial for Pitta types.

What Is Panchakarma? A Simple Explanation

Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s five-step purification protocol. The word means five actions in Sanskrit. Where most Ayurvedic treatments address surface-level symptoms, Panchakarma targets metabolic toxins stored deep within the body’s tissues.

The five classical steps are:

  1. Vamana  Medically supervised cleansing to remove excess Kapha toxins
  2. Virechana  Controlled purgation to cleanse the liver and small intestine
  3. Basti  Herbal enemas to pacify Vata and cleanse the colon
  4. Nasya  Medicated nasal oils to purify the head region
  5. Raktamokshana  Targeted blood purification for skin and chronic toxicity

Panchakarma works best for people experiencing chronic stress, digestive issues, skin conditions, joint pain, hormonal imbalance, or persistent fatigue. At Oceanic Yoga, our Panchakarma-inspired programme is guided by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor and carefully adapted to a 10-day retreat format  safe and effective for participants of all backgrounds.

Understanding Your Dosha  Vata, Pitta & Kapha

Before any therapy begins, your Ayurvedic doctor conducts a full dosha assessment  examining your physical constitution, current imbalances, pulse, and lifestyle. This forms the foundation of your entire programme.

Vata  Air + Ether

Vata governs movement: nerve impulses, circulation, and creative thought. Vata types are energetic and quick-thinking, but when out of balance they experience anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, and erratic digestion. Treatment focus: warmth, oil, grounding practices.

Pitta  Fire + Water

Pitta governs digestion, metabolism, and sharp thinking. Pitta types are driven and focused, but excess Pitta shows up as inflammation, irritability, acid reflux, and burnout. Treatment focus: cooling herbs, Shirodhara, restorative yoga.

Kapha  Earth + Water

Kapha governs structure, immunity, and emotional stability. Kapha types are strong and nurturing, but imbalance brings lethargy, congestion, and low motivation. Treatment focus: stimulating massage, heat therapy, active movement.

Sound Healing  Why We Include It in Every Retreat

Oceanic Yoga integrates Tibetan singing bowl sound healing into every Ayurvedic retreat, a combination rarely offered at conventional Ayurveda centres, and one that meaningfully deepens the healing experience.

During Panchakarma, the nervous system undergoes significant recalibration as toxins are released. Sound healing sessions using tuned Tibetan and crystal bowls at 432Hz and 528Hz work directly with the autonomic nervous system to lower cortisol, ease emotional release, and support deep rest.

Evening sessions at Oceanic Yoga combine asana, Yoga Nidra, and sound healing into a three-stage nervous system reset  consistently described by guests as the most transformative part of their stay.

Why North Goa Is Perfect for Ayurvedic Healing

Goa’s tropical climate is scientifically ideal for herbal oil therapy; warm temperatures maximise transdermal absorption. The best time to visit for Ayurveda is October to March, when lower humidity creates optimal conditions for Panchakarma. Our retreat batches run from October through April.

Morjim and Pernem in North Goa are significantly quieter and more authentic than the tourist-heavy south  ideal for genuine rest and healing. Our 5-acre campus features fruit trees, open-air yoga shalas, sea views, and is just 800 metres from the beach. We are 1 hour from Dabolim Airport (GOI) and 40 minutes from Mopa Airport (GOX).
